#About Me
Gerard Calvo Bartra
Hi there! I'm Gerard, a machine learning researcher who spends too much time dreaming up wild project ideas (some of which I even finish!). If you've stumbled onto my portfolio, congrats: you've found proof that not all my projects live in my imagination.
I used to work as a research engineer at i2CAT Foundation, building neural networks for integrated sensing and localization (ISAC) in biomedical applications. My research has somehow made it into some serious journals.
These days, I'm currently working (read: volunteering) with multiple Conservation Tech teams, mostly on animal re-identification projects. If you need to tell two zebras apart or figure out which fish is photobombing, I'm your person. I'm always learning (and occasionally unlearning) as I help bridge the gap between conservationists and coders.
When I'm not analyzing loss curves, I can be found hiking in the Catalan mountains, playing piano, or participating in low-level board game tournaments.
I'm definitely a tea person, but I promise I won't hold it against you if you're Team Coffee. Always happy to chat—let's connect!
